Martha-Ellen’s First Buck

November 20, 2024 sure was a special evening in Central NC!
We left out early knowing the deer would be on their feet before the cold front hit after the rain had stopped. Martha-Ellen Kluttz, age 7, shot her first deer, a big doe, last year at 6yrs old. She shot her second deer, another big doe, on the evening of 11/16/2024 with her brother in the blind with us after passing 2 bucks that evening…
“Their horns have to be past their ears, daddy” is what she told me. She is persistent and very patient for her age!
After watching a flock of turkeys with her binoculars for about 30 minutes, this nice Rowan County 7pt came straight in to a series of doe bleats followed by a tending grunt sequence at 4:15pm. Knowing he wasn’t going to stick around long, I stopped him and gave her the green light to shoot as soon as she could get on him. With zero hesitation she made a perfect heart shot off of the tripod and he ran 60yds across the field and cut a flip right out in front of us… A memory that will last a lifetime and this young lady is still smiling from ear to ear! Proud is an understatement!
