I’ve known of this deer since May due to videos from friend and neighbors talking. But never had permission to deer hunt around him. Luckily I was managing coyotes for a local farmer. I called to mention the coyotes I had killed 3nights prior to let them know I was successful. In the process we begun to talk about deer. They proceeded to tell me they seen between 30-60 deer daily sometimes. I round about mention the idea of controlling the deer herd. And explained the benefits of it. They decided since I had done such a good job the last 4yr managing coyotes They would allow it. So next day after hearing this exciting news. I went and gathered up a few Moultrie cameras and placed them. Didn’t take long 1 day after cameras in place i got the picture I needed! But to my surprise there were 2 other giants roaming with him I didn’t know of. All still in velvet at this point I’m thinking we are going into 2nd week of Sept. They are going to drop velvet anyday and change patterns. So I hunted the afternoon of the 16th and boom got a glimpse of these bucks roaming together well over 500yards away though. The night of the 16th I got them all on camera. The 17th rolled around and I left the spot alone due to bad wind. 18th come and I couldn’t hunt but daylight broke and him and the other 2 standing in camera frame. The afternoon of the 18th I elected to get off work and sit at observing spot and watch. I watched them work a field edge and where they finally dipped off into the woods. The morning of the 19th I knew it was my shot. Perfect wind around 1-2mph in my face. Throwing milk weed from the moment I step out of truck. I settled in my stand only 8ft off the ground due to cover and visibility. I knew there was no chance if they hop the same fence they had been and come across the field they would have any knowledge of my whereabouts. I had a 2ft shooting lane and that’s it everything else I left standing providing perfect cover. Soon as it broke daylight enough to see I seen movement coming to my far left. I reached up and swung my legs off the side of this single man ladder stand. And as I did I reached up and grabbed my prime bow. And soon as I got the release on I seen his antlers. And I knew it was him. I drew back and let out a little maaaa maaaa and let the levi morgan swhacker EAT!
