Preston’s last minute Buck.

September 28, It was the second day of youth season. I was sitting in a box stand by myself with my dad’s old 243 that he passed down to me. I was hunting over a bush hogged agricultural field that was not planted with anything. It was a very good evening to be hunting, I had already seen 4-5 does and a small Buck. I decided to be patient and wait for the deer I had been watching since the beginning of August. It was about 7:15 when I decided to shoot a doe. I only had two out on me, and one was a small yearling. I was trying to get the bigger doe, but when I finally got the gun out of the window, it was behind some pine branches. I set there waiting until about 7:30, 6 minutes before shooting time was up. when all of the sudden I looked to my right and all I could see was a set of horns coming up over a small hill in front of me. It was him, the Buck I had been watching for almost 2 mouths had just walked out at 60 yards. I moved my gun to the front window, waited for a broadside shot, and boom! I watched the deer through my scope as it bucked up and tried to get its feet moving to get out of the field. I watched it stumble across the field and disappear over the same hill where it had appeared from. The tracking was easy having a good blood trail, and after 10 minutes, we found him laying on the edge of the field in some tall grass. I was so happy and excited, I just could not believe it. So that is the story of the Buck that came out last minute.
