Jordan Young’s 140+ Onslow County buck

Onslow County buck

I live in Onslow County, Richlands, N.C. I had been watching this deer for about 2.5 years and he always seemed to be nocturnal when he came to the corn pile. He disappeared when the rut came in, in 2020.

August 2021, I put my cameras back out and he made it through the season but still showing up late at night, he was not as regular as he was the year before and actually disappeared again from September to mid October before he was back on camera.

This time around he was coming in early in the morning and leaving right at first light. On the afternoon of Nov. 2, I decided to go sit in my stand and checked one of the cameras on my way in. I saw that he was there that morning at 8:30 a.m. and I thought I missed my chance. So the next morning (Nov. 3, 2021) I went and got in my stand hoping for one more slip up.

Cutting it close–7:45 a.m. rolls around and I have to run my son across the street. I do that and come back about 8:25 a.m. As I was coming up on my stand I looked down the edge of the wood line that was perpendicular to where I sit, and at about 80 yards there he was eating!

I kneeled down behind some brush with my .308 Browning X-Bolt and smoked him! 10-point, 213 pounds. His gross score is 140 2/8 inches.
