My son Jacob and I were hunting in a tripod stand in Gilbert, SC on the morning of Oct. 26, 2024. The temperature was not to cold with a little fog. I saw a doe come down our shooting lane. I picked up Jacob’s 300 blackout rifle and put it on the rail for him just in case a buck followed. Then a 7 point came out chasing the doe and turned broadside at 25 yards. Jacob squeezed the trigger and the buck ran toward our stand and crashed 5 yards in front of us in some brush. We were so excited that we did not notice the doe that the seven point was chasing, was now being chased by a 8 point. Jacob put his rifle back on the rail. I told him to squeeze the trigger when the buck stoped in the green food plot we had planted as a family together. The 8 point stopped momentarily and Jacob squeezed the trigger. The 8 point started chasing the doe in the food plot again. I was sure he had missed the 8 point. I told him to shoot the 8 point if it stopped again. To our surprise as the buck chased the doe out of the food plot he collapsed at the edge of the woods. Jacob and I celebrated in the stand at the most exciting hunt we had been on. This was Jacobs 1st and 2nd bucks.
