Emily Caughman’s second-chance buck

“Click”

I’ve been calling this deer “Click” because that’s what happened the first time I tried to take a shot on him. Well I finally got him tonight! I hunted this deer hard the week of Josh’s birthday and on Friday morning, November 5th he stepped out and my gun misfired.

I even have that moment captured on the trail camera. I cried like a baby, I ain’t gonna lie. I hunted him that next morning and the next day. Then he was gone until this week.

He was back on camera yesterday morning, November 15th. I went this evening, November 16th and about 10 minutes until dark I had a doe come out. Not even a minute later he came in after her. It happened so fast and I wasn’t even sure it was him. I made a dang good shot and he ran about 30 yards.

I cried when I got to him and saw it was the deer I had been hunting so hard for! He weighed 169 lbs and is 18-1/2 inches wide. This is a special deer for many reasons and I’m glad I got a second chance at taking him!
