10-pointer green-scored 144+ inches
Robert Hamrick of Shelby, N.C. killed a trophy 10-pointer in Cleveland County on the region’s last day of archery season. The buck has been green-scored at 144 2/8 inches. He arrowed the buck from 10 yards away.
“I had never seen the deer before and had no trail cam photos of it,” Hamrick said.
He was hunting in a wooded area from an elevated stand hoping to see a mature buck looking for does.
“It was the last day of bow season, Nov. 6. I snuck down into a hardwood flat. I had a smaller buck come through shortly after getting into the stand. About an hour before dark, I let out a few grunts with my grunt call,” he said.
The call seemed to have worked. Shortly after making it, Hamrick saw the 10-pointer.
“It wasn’t five minutes later when I noticed a deer about 50 yards away working a scrape. After a few minutes of watching him, he turned and made a B-line straight to my stand where there was another scrape 10 yards away from my stand,” he said.
Hamrick got his bow ready, and waited for the right moment.
“The buck walked right to the scrape and presented me with a 10-yard shot. And the rest is history,” he said.
