Chase Hartness’ first deer

This is Chase Hartness, my 12-year-old son, who shot his very first deer, the first of many, Lord willing, on Dec. 2, 2022. We began homeschooling in August of 2021 to allow our kids to have more time & opportunities to follow their passions.

Chase has been very dedicated to hunting & fishing his whole life, but now he has more opportunities than ever to be out there, enjoying the outdoors. He shot his first turkey last year, and our focus this year was to get his first deer.

On his fourth trip deer hunting, we sat together, father and son, as a massive 7-point buck came sneaking down the hill. All we could see was rack, and we both started shaking. He stood up, and as soon as it stepped out from behind a tree, he made the shot from about 50 yards away with buckshot, and dropped the deer.

It was a proud moment for me, for sure! This is a day we will never forget, and we thank God for the opportunity to do this together. It’s all made possible by much prayer & dedication. We thank God every day for the freedom to homeschool, which allows him to be in the woods with his dad any time he wants. We are excited to see what the future holds for this young man!
