While hunting from his stand for the first time of South Carolina’s 2024 deer hunting season, Cayden “Country Boy” Lucas killed an Orangeburg County 12-point buck on Aug. 18. The 12-year-old was hunting from an elevated stand when he pulled the trigger of his 6.5 Creedmoor on the big buck, which was 100 yards away.

With his uncle and dad hunting close by in other stands, the young hunter sat and watched numerous other bucks, waiting for a bigger buck to show up. Before long, he got his wish, as he spotted another buck moving in.

Lucas steadied himself, took the shot, and immediately called his dad to let him know he’d shot a good deer. His dad showed up and the retrieved the 12-point buck after tracking it for about 40 yards.
