8-point buck

25-yard shot downed 8-point buck

Levi McCoy, 6-years-old of Hillsborough, NC, killed an 8-point buck in Orange County on Sept. 10, 2024. He shot the deer with a Barnett crossbow from 25 yards away while in a ground blind with his dad.

The deer ran about 80 yards before topping over. The young hunter practiced all summer, and remained patient during the hunt until just the right shot presented itself.

“Levi held his composure while the buck fed, waiting for a clear shot,” said his dad. “All his practice over the summer paid off with an awesome, full velvet, first deer. What an amazing experience as a father, watching him experience his first successful hunt.”
