Awards were given for writing, photography, audio and video
Eleven outdoor media members won Excellence in Craft awards at the 2026 South Carolina Outdoor Press Association’s yearly meeting, which was held in Greenwood, SC last month.
The awards, which were sponsored by the Hampton Wildlife Fund, covered a wide range of media, including writing, photography, video and audio.
Bob Glendy Award (Best Fishing Story): 1st place: Terry Madewell, Splish, Splash, Gurgle, Plop!
Terry Madewell Award (Best Hunting Story): 1st place: Jim Casada, Parker Whedon: The Last of the Old-Time Turkey Hunters.
Magazine Article (1000+ words): 1st place, Jon Wongrey, On Point; 2nd place, Jim Casada, The Vanishing Act of Storytelling; 3rd place: Jim Mize, Daydreaming in a Dove Field.
Conference Site Article: 1st place, Mike Watts, Fall on Chattooga River; 2nd place, Jim Mize, Speak Well of Fish and Bears; Third place, Terry Madewell, Lake Hartwell; An Overlooked Crappie Destination.
