I was hunting the edge of a soy bean field around 4:45 I saw a group of about 4 doe come out from a thick edge on the other side of the field about 250 yards away. I watched the does as they continued to look back into the wood line that they came from, seeing that got me excited enough. After about 10 minutes here he came across the fence and into the soy bean field still about 250 yards from my stand. The buck was tending to the does and staying about 10 yards away whichever way they went in the field. The buck was moving trotting around the does at a steady pace so I decided to try and get him to stop. I grunted at him about 3 or so times and it started to get his attention he stopped and looked across the field for about 2 minutes directly towards my position across the field. At that point I knew it was going to take a little bit more to get him to pay more attention to me instead of the does in front of him. I decided to “snort wheeze” at the buck to try to attract him my way. After I snort wheezed at the buck his ears went straight back and he marched in a straight line right towards me. Then the buck was within about 60 yards he started to circle to get downwind of my stand, the buck was going right into a thicker piece of brush to my right. I followed him in the scope of my Savage 308 until he got to the end of the brush line and he stepped out quartering towards my stand at about 20 yards and I took the shot. He went about 25 yards before crashing down in the soy bean field. I had a few trail camera pictures of this buck but not enough to be confident that he would show the way he did. This is my first buck in North Carolina and I couldn’t be happier!
