Ian Walker’s cownose ray

Ian Walker’s one out of about 100+ cownose rays caught during late March/early April at the Kure Beach Pier.

“I caught it on a drum rig with a piece of bluefish after I spent the whole day being a net man,” he said.

Cownose rays are among the most unique rays to live along the Carolina coasts. They get their name from the shape of their heads, which resemble that of a cow’s nose.
