Palmetto Sportsmen’s Classic set for March 26-28

SouthCarolinaSportsman.com gives away muzzleloader

The 26th Annual Palmetto Sportsmen’s Classic will be held at the State Fairgrounds in Columbia on March 26-28, and SouthCarolinaSportsman.com will be giving away a CVA muzzleloader through a free drawing.

Show hours are noon to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 26; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 27; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 28.

There will be many seminars and exhibitions during the show, but the big draw will be the buck-scoring event. SouthCarolinaSportsman.com will be photographing and posting photos of as many of these big racks as possible throughout the show on our dedicated Palmetto Sportsmen’s Classic gallery page.

Users can help determine the first annual SouthCarolinaSportsman.com Palmetto Sportsmen’s Classic Users Choice Award by voting for your favorite deer throughout the show. Daily winners will be chosen to provide a final week-long voting session during which the overall winner will be chosen.

Also, everyone signing up as SouthCarolinaSportsman.com registered users at the show by 2 p.m. on Sunday will be eligible for a FREE drawing. The winner will receive a CVA Electra muzzleloader.

NOTE: The drawing for the muzzleloader will be held at 2 p.m. at the South Carolina Sportsman booth, and the rifle will be awarded then.

Classic-goers also will find hundreds of exhibitors on site with the latest fishing, hunting and outdoor equipment for show and sale.

Also at the show will be the Fifth Annual South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Archery in the Schools Tournament. The tournament is a culminating event for the Archery in the Schools program and first-place teams in each category will be eligible for the national tournament.

The DNR’s education staff and volunteers also will be on hand to help kids catch catfish at the highly popular South Carolina Reel Kids Fishing Pond. DNR’s Take One Make One trailer with air rifle and electronic shooting ranges and Bass Tub fishing technique demonstrations will also be at the Palmetto Sportsmen’s Classic

Another highlight event will be the appearance of Frank Addington Jr., also known as the Aspirin Buster for his “Have Bow Will Travel” archery show in which Addington will demonstrate six arrows fired at once, two balloons shot with one arrow and various targets from mid-air down to the highlight of the show: a baby aspirin shot from mid-air. And he can do all of these shots with the bow behind his back.

New and returning major attractions include Dennis Stratton (Creating the Great Hunt Experience with Children), Roark Ferguson (conservationist, herpetologist, and wildlife adventurer) and Joella Bates (first woman in the world to arrow Africa’s Big 5).

Also new this year, live entertainment in the midway with Nashville singer/songwriter Mike Stewart. Stewart, an Aiken native, spent more than 20 years in Nashville where he wrote million-selling songs for such greats as Ronnie Milsap and The Pointer Sisters. Stewart has recorded with Hank Williams Jr., Vince Gill, Travis Tritt, The Judds and many others. Stewart, with special guests Shameless Dave and the Miracle Whips, will perform two shows on Saturday: noon and 2 p.m.

Admission is $6, with parking costing $2. Seniors 60 and over get in for $5, while children 10 and under are admitted free. Visitors bringing five canned-food items for Harvest Hope Food Bank receive $1 off admission. On Saturday, those in military uniform will be admitted free, while other veterans showing proper ID will receive $1 off admission.
