Jeff Dennis grew up on a tidal creek on James Island, and has spent the past seven years sharing his love of the outdoors as a contributor to South Carolina Sportsman magazine and other media outlets. He now joins SouthCarolinaSportsman.com to help direct and grow the Web site into the premier online community of outdoorsmen.
“Jeff’s Sea & Sound columns have appeared on the site for some time and he has covered a variety of tournaments specifically for the Web site, so he brings a lot of the table,” SouthCarolinaSportsman.com’s Andy Crawford said. “We’re proud he’s agreed to become part of the team, and look forward to watching him take the Web site to the next level.”
The Charleston native will serve as the internet coordinator responsible for audience development – which is to say that he will be working to grow SouthCarolinaSportsman.com’s online community, build the reports forum and maximize the free classified section.
“Of course, his writing will continue to appear in the magazine and on the Web site,” Crawford said.
Dennis has a long history with the fishing community, spending much of his time on the waters surrounding Charleston with friends and in tournaments. His catches have included a 32-pound jack crevalle, a rare tripletail, hordes of Spanish mackerel and big black drum beneath the old Cooper River Bridge.
But conservation has long played a big part in Dennis’ fishing philosophy.
“I have been a cooperating recreational angler in the SCDNR tag-and-release program for nearly two decades,” he said.
Hunting also demands some of Dennis’ time, however, with much of his time in the woods spent on his family’s Snipe Hill farm that has passed from one generation to another for the past 200 years.
“I hold a special place for the uplands where I can look for bobwhite quail with my English setter Chester,” he explained.
Dennis said he looks forward to focusing all of his outdoor resources on growing the site.
“I look forward to providing a place for every South Carolina’s sportsman to celebrate their time afield,” he said.
