SCDNR Pickens Pistol Range Grand Opening

A grand opening of the newly completed Pickens Pistol Range will held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 24. The range is located next to a WMA dove field and is on land owned and operated by SCDNR

The funds for the Pickens County project came from the Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act, part of the Pittman-Robertson excise tax of guns, ammunition and archery equipment.

Attending the ceremony will be Pickens County state Senator Larry Martin and SCDNR Executive Director John Frampton.

“We have had a rifle range in place in Pickens for a long time, and it has been a big success with locals,” Frampton said.

Now a small building has been constructed and improvements have been made to the range.

“SCDNR completes these projects in an effort to give people an opportunity to participate in the shooting sports,” SCDNR spokesman Mike Willis said. “Our surveys show that shooters often have concerns about not having enough places to go and shoot. Projects like the newly renovated Pickens Pistol Range gives them more options.”
