Thrift gets Top-5 in FLW

Shelby angler hauls home nearly $20,000

Bryan Thrift of Shelby placed fifth in the Oct. 20-23 FLW Tour event on Alabama’s Lake Guntersville. His 4-day haul of 73 pounds, seven ounces paid $19,421.

Chris Baumgardner of Gastonia finished 20th with 31-13 and collected $11,634.

Cory Leonard of Castalia placed sixth among the co-anglers with 30-10 and banked $2,424. Co-angler Phil Jarmon of Apex took the 22nd-place prize of $1,256 with 11-13.

Two local anglers score in Everstart

Two North Carolina fishermen had paydays at the Sept. 29-Oct. 1 Everstart Series event on the Potomac River.

Mike McDonald of Randleman placed third with 42-7 and won $8,839, and Chris Baumgardner of Gastonia finished 41st with 22-8 and earned $972.

Lamb only break in Vols’ Weekend rout

The top 12 spots at the Bassmaster Weekend Series Southeast Regional Championship on Kentucky Lake were occupied by Tennessee anglers.

Mike Lamb of Wake Forest interrupted the flow of Tennessee fishermen by placing 13th with 20.40 pounds. Lexington’s David Wright finished 23rd with 17.01 pounds.

Brandon Gray of Bullock had the big fish among the boaters with a 6.89-pound bass.

Patrick Massey of Apex ranked seventh among the co-anglers with 11.04 pounds, and co-angler Raymond Tuttle of Charlotte finished 10th with 9.94 pounds.

Kings are ABA Couples royalty

Lee and Kimberly King of Cherryville won the Oct. 15 American Bass Anglers N.C. Couples Division 4 tournament at Lake Wylie. Their weight, 8.19 pounds, paid $270.
