Corbin Smith of Mebane, NC killed an 8-point buck in Orange County, NC on Sept. 26, 2026.
She shot the buck with a Marlin 30/30 lever action rifle during an evening hunt while sitting on the ground from 82 yards away.
Smith’s dad summed up the hunt with these words:
“On Sept. 26, 2026 during youth Saturday, my 11 year old daughter, Corbin and I went on her first hunt of the year. This was her second year trying to get her first deer.
As we sat in the blind we saw several deer start to enter the field and feed in front of us. This 8 point buck came through the woods towards the other deer.
Once the buck was in the open, we hoped she would get a good shot. After about 5 minutes, he finally turned broadside and she dropped him at 82 yards.
She was so excited and her smile made all the work we’ve put in and long sits from years past worth it. She used my old 30/30 that I got when I was about her age.
This hunt is by far the most memorable one I’ve ever had.”
