Dallas Johnson of Salley, SC killed a 12-point buck in Aiken County, SC on Aug. 22, 2026.
He shot the buck with a .300 Weatherby during an afternoon hunt while sitting in an elevated stand from 115 yards away.
Johnson summed up the hunt with these words:
“I missed this deer on opening day. At least I thought I did. I encountered this deer 5 times before finally getting him. From grazing him on opening day, to other bucks in his batchelor group getting spooked and him barreling out the woods at 50 yards, to him coming out 3 minutes after I got out the stand to him daylighting 3 times in one day. the last time was the last. a 12 point buck behind some chicken houses. a story and a memory I will never forget. 187 pounds. no teeth on this buck.”
