Laura Tucker killed a 200-pound, 10-point buck in Warren County, NC on Oct. 31, 2024.
“Halloween was all treats and no tricks for me this year!” she said. “I had a spooky good evening in Warren County as I was able to harvest a deer we nicknamed ‘Floppy’ due to his broken ear that hung down.”
Her history with the buck stretched back over the past few years.
“Having seen this deer through the past few seasons on trail cameras, he showed up Tuesday morning while I was at work,” she said. “Work always gets in the way of the fun stuff.”
Tucker hunted that Tuesday evening, and minutes after she left the stand, the deer showed up on her Stealth Cam.
“The following day, Wednesday, I was unable to get in the stand, and he showed right after dark on camera,” she said. “I knew I had to get in the stand that next day.”
She and her husband Preston arrived at their hunting property. He went to one stand, she went to another. It wasn’t a typical late October evening.
“It was warm and breezy, and the mosquitoes were awful,” Tucker said. “I turned on my Thermacell and hoped for the best.”
She settled in for the hunt, and conditions changed slightly.
“The wind died down a bit,” she said. “I waited…and waited.”
And then the magic happened.
“Finally, a hot doe that I saw earlier in the week came out, and Floppy followed her right into the corn pile,” she said. “I lifted my trusty .270 Tikka and fired, and Floppy was down. Dropped him where he stood. I was shaking, and couldn’t hardly catch my breath, I was so excited!”
