Exhibitors, DockDogs, calling contest will highlight three-day show
The inaugural Gold Leaf Waterfowlers Outdoor Expo will debut on Friday, April 10, and run through the weekend at the Wilson County Fairgrounds in Wilson.
The Expo was hatched in a duck blind among three friends who thought outdoorsmen needed a small show that catered to duck hunters. In a few short months, the idea came to fruition, with exhibitors from 14 states and Canada, 68 dogs entered in the DockDogs competition and a member of the Robertson family from Duck Dynasty on hand.
The three-day show opens on Friday, with hours from 1 to 8 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, the show will open at 10 a.m. and run through 6 p.m. A country music show will follow Saturday’s activities, beginning at 7 p.m. with Josh Thompson, Joe Diffie, Tyler Hatley and the Little Mountain Band from Denver, N.C., and Wilson teen Rachel Martin.
Jep Robertson from Duck Dynasty will be featured at the show on Saturday and Sunday.
The Expo will keep kids interested with a live trout pond for fishing, duck decoy painting, an inflatable obstacle course and a splash zone at the DockDogs pool.
A duck-calling contest will be held on Sunday, April 12, at 11 a.m. in Junior and Open duck and goose divisions.
Expo tickets will be $10 onsite and are good for the entire weekend. Kids under 13 get in free with a paid adult. Concert tickets will be $30. Both are available for discount prices until April 6th at www.waterfowlersexpo.com .
North Carolina Sportsman is one of a handful of show sponsors.
