SCDNR officers responded to a report of a man shooting a wild turkey from a vehicle in Bamberg County, SC in mid-April. They charged the man with numerous violations after he admitted to the shooting.

Shortly after arriving at the location, SCDNR officers saw several folks, and a dead wild turkey. While the officers were investigating, one of the individuals admitted to shooting the turkey from his truck with a .223 caliber rifle. He also admitted to shooting the bird from his truck, from a public road, at a property he did not have permission to hunt.

Seizing the turkey, the rifle, and other related items from the man’s vehicle, they charged him with numerous violations, including taking a wild turkey with a rifle, taking a wild turkey from a vehicle on a public road, intentionally trespassing, failing to tag a wild turkey at the point of kill, and having no turkey tags in possession.

If found guilty, the man faces charges up to $5500 in fines, $500 in restitution for the turkey, forfeiture of firearms, and a potential 1-year statutory suspension of all SCDNR privileges.
