Chairman has resigned from SCDNR’s Natural Resources Board.
Norman F. Pulliam, Sr., has decided to step down as chairman and 4th Congressional District member of the SCDNR Natural Resources Board. He has served throughout the tenure of three South Carolina governors.
Pulliam said he has thoroughly enjoyed his time serving on the board, and said it’s time for him to step away.
“After much reflection, I have come to realize that, due to my advancing age and my wife’s health challenges, it is time for me to step back and dedicate more time to my family and resume my outdoor activities,” Pulliam said in a letter to Gov. Henry McMaster. “Serving has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional life, as it is so closely related to my interests as an outdoorsman, a conservationist, and a steward of our great state’s natural resources.”
During his decades of service to the state of South Carolina, Pulliam has been awarded his share of recognition, including The Order of the Palmetto in 1985, Philantropist of the Year in 1996, The Distinguished Service Award in 2015 from Clemson University, Citizen of the Year by the Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce in 2018, the Billfish Conservation Lifetime Award in 2022, and was named Honorary Colonel for SCDNR’s Law Enforcement Division in 2022. He has also had an award named after him, the Norman F. Pulliam Humanitarian Award, of which he was presented in 2016.
