ThermaCELL introduces lantern to line of products

ThermaCELL's lantern provides illumination, and it repells insects as well.

It is possible to be mosquito free on a deck, patio, woods or beach cottage or in a campground without being doused in mosquito repellant or covered in mosquito netting. ThermaCell, manufacturer of several mosquito- repellant products, has introduced the ThermaCELL Outdoor Lantern. In addition to mosquitoes, ThermaCELL Outdoor Lanterns also repel black flies and no-see-ums.

The lantern combines the same mosquito repelling protection as other ThermaCELL appliances while adding a light with two brightness levels. It uses a butane cartridge to heat a repellant mat and provide 225 square feet of mosquito-free area. The light options are created by eight LEDs mounted in the lantern’s base that are powered by four AA size batteries. The mosquito repellant and light can be used independently or simultaneously.

According to tests conducted by the U.S. Department of Defense, ThermaCELL Lanterns are up to 98-percent effective in warding off mosquitoes.

The lantern has a redesigned handle that is easy to carry or hang and a durable body that weighs less than a pound.

“We created a more rugged lantern for those who want a portable, light-weight solution to mosquitoes,” said Bill Schawbel, president of the Schawbel Corporation, ThermaCELL’s parent company. “By offering customers a dual-function lantern that has a highly effective repellent as well as illumination options with no open flame, we are making outdoor activities safer and more enjoyable.”

Lanterns are self-contained, and each package includes one butane cartridge, three repellent mats that react to heat generated by a contained burning of the butane to disperse allethrin, a natural insecticide found in chrysanthemum plants. Each mat provides up to four hours of protection, and each butane cartridge provides up to 12 hours of operation.
