Dove season split into three parts; Sept. 4 is Opening Day.
The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission has set dates and bag limits for the early migratory bird seasons for 2010-2011.
Dove season will again be split into three parts, the first running from Sept. 4-Oct. 9, the second from Nov. 22-27 and the third from Dec. 18-Jan. 14. Shooting hours for doves will be 30 minutes before sunrise until sunset – except for Opening Day, when hunting will begin at noon. The daily bag limit is 15 birds.
The early teal season will run Sept. 11-29 east of US 17. The daily bag limit is four. Woodcock season is Dec. 31-Jan. 29, with a bag limit of 3.
For Canada geese, the early season is Sept. 1-30 statewide. In areas west of US 17, expanded hunting methods have been approved:
• Shooting hours are extended to 30 minutes after sunset;
• Electronic calls are permitted;
• Unplugged guns are permitted.
The season on king and clapper rails, sora and Virginia rails and gallinules and moorhens is Sept. 4-Nov. 12. The daily bag limit for kings and clappers is 15 per day in aggregate; the daily bag limit for gallinules and moorhens is 15 per day in aggregate, and the daily bag limit for sora and Virginia rails is 25 per day in aggregate.
Common snipe can be hunted Nov. 12-Feb. 26. The daily bag limit is 26.
