SCDNR sets black bear hunting season for Horry, Georgetown and Williamsburg counties.
Applications are now being accepted for the coastal-area black bear hunt, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources reported.
The hunt is set for Dec. 1-5 in Horry, Georgetown and Williamsburg counties, the SCDNR said.
Ten tags will be issued for each county through a random drawing.
Applications can downloaded or acquired by calling 803.734.3886. Applications must be postmarked by Nov. 4, and should be include a $10 nonrefundable application fee.
Those selected for the hunt also will be required to purchase a tag, which costs $25 for residents and $100 for nonresidents, the agency said.
Nonresidents must also provide evidence of purchasing a hunting license and big-game permit in order to apply. Only those selected by a random drawing will be able to purchase a tag and attempt to take a bear.
Tags will only be valid for one of the three counties so applicants will be asked to rank the counties in order of preference.
Selected hunters will be allowed to hunt on wildlife management areas in the county selected as long as they possess valid WMA permits.
Bears may be taken on private lands if hunters have permission from landowners or hunting-lease holders.
