WMA features archery hunts, and lottery hunts for deer and waterfowl
Midlands hunters have new hunting choices, thanks the the SCDNR’s newest WMA. The Wateree River Heritage Preserve WMA in Richland County is located on the eastern side of Richland County, which borders the Wateree River.
This new WMA is made up of over 3600-acres, and is already open for archery season, which will last through Oct. 15. These hunts are open to all hunters with a valid hunting license and WMA permit.
Aside from archery season, the SCDNR will also hold lottery deer hunts on Oct. 22-24, Nov. 5-7, and Nov 19-21. Each hunt has sixteen available slots, and applications for these hunts are available by calling 803-734-3898. Oct. 2 is the deadline for completed applications to be turned in to the Columbia SCDNR office.
Waterfowlers will have four lottery hunts available this year on Nov. 28, Dec. 12, Jan. 9, and Jan 16, and applications are available at the SCDNR website.
