One of the most-common issues with herbicide application is the poor understanding of the capabilities of the application device. A wide range of herbicide applicators can be used from backpack and hand sprayers to vehicle-mounted boom sprayers. Herbicides must be applied at the recommended rate per unit of area.
In addition to correctly identifying the area of application, the applicator should note the actual width of coverage and the dispensary rate on their equipment. Using a tank filled with plain water will give the applicator the ability to calibrate his or her spray equipment and completely understand the effective spray coverage before using costly herbicides.
