While running coyotes and foxes with dogs is a year-round sport in Eastern North Carolina, bobcats are only in season from Oct. 13 through Feb. 28. There are no daily bag or season limits.
Slick Edmundsen of Macclesfield reported killing 22 bobcats last season while hunting four days a week. According to Edmundsen, running bobcats is more fun than coyotes or dogs. “They’ll stay in close and circle tight, kind of like a rabbit,” he said.
Edmundsen looks for bobcats in thick, swampy areas or 5-year-old timber cutovers that have grown up with thick briars, because cats will not be in open
