Four people were charged in early April for their connection with wildfires that took place in South Carolina’s Upstate region.

On March 21, the fires started inside Table Rock State Park. Those charged included 18-year-old Tristan Tyler William, 18-year-old Isaac David Wilson, 19-year-old Nyzaire Jah-Neiz March, and an unnamed juvenile.

Those fires have led to more than 15,000 acres being burned.

The wildfires were discovered during the search for missing hiker Stephanie Womacks, who disappeared on March 3 while visiting that state park. The fires thwarted the search for Womacks, when authorities deemed conditions unsafe to continue. The search was later continued, but the rapid spread of the fires caused numerous delays in the attempts to find Womacks.

According to the Pickens County arrest warrant paperwork, those charged were smoking on a hiking trail at the state park, and did not extinguish their smoking materials properly, resulting in the wildfires.

The juvenile was released into the custody of his parents. The other three suspect were booked into the county’s detention center, then released on personal recognizance bonds of $7500 each.
