Granville County buck had special meaning

Trinity Matthews killed an 8-point buck in Granville County, NC on Oct. 10, 2025 that had special meaning to her.

“I shot the 8-point buck, not just for the hunt, but for the meaning behind it,” said Matthews, of Bullock, NC.

She recalled fond memories with her late granddad, and with her dad, about what hunting truly means.

“My granddaddy and dad always made hunting something special for me,” she said. “It’s never just been about the kill, but about the memories, the lessons, and the time spent outdoors.”

Matthews carries a lot of pride in those lessons and memories.

“I eat what I kill,” she said. “And I’m proud to carry on what they taught me. My granddaddy passed away about a year and a half ago, and he played a huge role in my life.

“He was one of the most outgoing and adventurous men I’ve ever known, and he loved to hunt just like my dad does.”

She strives to live in a way that would make her granddad proud.

“Since he’s been gone,” she said. “I’ve been doing my best to make him proud. This one’s for him.”
