Josh Cardwell wins November Bag A Buck

Josh Cardwell killed this mainframe 9-point in Rockingham County during November.

Second chance proves fruitful

When Josh Cardwell got a second chance at a big Rockingham County 9-point buck in November, he made the most of it, killing the big deer with his Ruger American .308.

Cardwell hadn’t shot a buck in almost 20 years, choosing to let small bucks walk in order to allow the deer to reach their full potential. He had plans to shoot this buck, and had been hunting it all season.

He had a chance to kill the big buck earlier this season while hunting with his muzzleloader, but his gun jammed. Cardwell was disappointed to the point of sickness due to the mishap, and didn’t think he’d even see the deer again, let alone get another chance to shoot it.

But that all changed in mid-November, when the buck showed up on his trail camera. The next day, Cardwell went straight to the woods after work.

Just before sunset, the buck stepped into range, and when he pulled the trigger on his .308, the buck dropped.

Cardwell wins a prize pack from Carolina Sportsman and is entered for the Grand Prize, a two-day hunt for two at Cherokee Run Hunting Lodge in Chesterfield County, SC.
