Owner of euthanized penned deer protests during NCWRC meeting

Deer were killed by agency to prevent spread of chronic wasting disease.

Wayne Kindley, his wife and friend Jo Henderson appeared at the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission’s monthly meeting yesterday (Oct. 13) in Raleigh at the invitation of WRC Executive Director Gordon Myers.

Henderson presented a petition containing 7,000 names opposing NCWRC actions during which nine deer at Kindley’s farm were killed.

However, the Asheboro trio thought the invitation to come to the meeting and present the petition also was an invitation to speak — which it was not.

Visitors to NCWRC meetings can’t address the body unless their names are placed on that day’s business-meeting agenda.

However, Henderson still tried to speak to the nonetheless after being informed she wasn’t on the agenda.

At that point, NCWRC Chairman David Hoyle Jr. adjourned the meeting and the commissioners left the room, with Henderson shouting at them.

“I know you’ve heard of the deer slaughter,” Henderson said loudly, according to news reports. “Shame, shame on all of you for inviting us to speak.”

Wayne Kindley also shouted, as his wife tried to muzzle him.

“You guys know you’re in the wrong,” Kindley yelled. “That’s why you’re shutting us up and not listening to us.”
