Don’t forget the candid camera

Move game cameras to food sources after the season to catch bucks trying to rebuild their bodies when hunters have left the woods.

Why post-season monitoring is important

Using game cameras during the post-season will provide some of the best information you can have when the next season rolls around.

While many will place post-season game cameras along travel corridors, I prefer to focus on food sources. As the temperature drops, bucks need to feed heavily to keep their bodies warm, so placing game cameras near food allows you to monitor the bucks that survived the season, as well as their health. It also will help to know when antlers are shed so you can begin to hunt for them later.

Game cameras have revolutionized the hunting industry, and post-season use is just as important as other times. Monitoring the movements of certain bucks on a year-round basis will help identify them and keep up with their travels and overall health.
