Hunts being held in honor of Spc. Thomas Caughman
In conjunction with Cowden Plantation and Jarrett Rifles, the SCDNR is offering two free deer hunts to active duty and retired military members, reservists, and disabled veterans. The hunts are being held in memory of Spc. Thomas Caughman of Lexington, who was killed during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004.
Caughman was an avid outdoorsman, and these hunts have been held yearly for the last several years in his honor.
The hunts are free, and are limited to 20 participants. Applications will be accepted through Oct. 30th. Cowden Plantation is near Jackson, and will host the hunts and lunch. After lunch, hunters will have the opportunity to tour the Jarrett Rifles Gun Shop and Museum.
Jarrett Rifles is a South Carolina gun maker with several models of rifles to choose from. They also offer gunsmithing services on a wide range of firearms.
