SCDNR lays out aquatic plant management plan

The SCDNR has released their 2020 management plan for aquatic plants and would like the public's input.

Agency is accepting public comments through Feb. 23

The public is invited to review and provide comments on the Draft 2020 South Carolina Aquatic Plant Management Plan through the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR). The public can provide comments and suggestions in writing or via email. They must be received by Feb. 23, 2020.

The SCDNR, in conjunction with the S.C. Aquatic Plant Management Council, is responsible for the management of nuisance aquatic plants in the state’s public waters. Each year the SCDNR and the Council prepare an Aquatic Plant Management Plan that identifies aquatic weed problem areas. They also prescribe management strategies and determine funding requirements. Since the inception of the program in 1981, more than 200,000 acres of invasive aquatic vegetation in public waters have been controlled to improve habitat, public access and use. The 2020 draft Plan is available online at http://www.dnr.sc.gov/invasiveweeds/draftplan.html.All comments should be received in writing or by email by the closing date to ensure that they are given proper consideration in the final plan.
