The OBX fishing report from TW's Bait and Tackle for early June 2020 is another good one.

TW’s Bait and Tackle’s OBX fishing report for early June

TW’s Bait & Tackle in Nags Head (252-441-4807) reports the fishing is still going like gangbusters along the Outer Banks. And just like the previous few weeks, that goes for anglers fishing inshore, offshore, from piers, and from the surf.

Lots of sea mullet, including numerous 2+ pounders have been caught in the past week from OBX surf anglers. The pompano bite has picked up considerably in the past week, especially for anglers around Ramps 48 and 49. Bluefish are also killing it. Puppy drum and sea mullet have been real active on the south end of Nags Head, and angler Kevin Logue has caught some big stripers there and in Kill Devils Hill.

The surf fishing has slowed down tremendously on days with a flat ocean and little wind. But even on those days, sea mullet and pompano have remained consistent. Sand fleas have made good bait in the surf lately, and Fishbites baits are also doing well, including helping one angler catch the potential new world record sea mullet at Avon.

Cobia, tuna are plentiful

The Little Bridge on the Nags Head/Manteo causeway is giving up some good speckled trout and the spots are also biting.

On the Avalon Pier, puppy drum, sea mullet, and bluefish are keeping anglers busy. On the Outer Banks Pier, sea mullet and bluefish are biting strong. Jeanette’s Pier is not open yet, and Nags Head Pier is also closed.

Nearshore anglers have been catching lots of cobia in the past few days. Anglers are also catching limits of Spanish mackerel, black drum and speckled trout.

Offshore, it’s been some of the best fishing of the year. Lots of yellowfin tuna, blackfin tuna, and bigeye tuna are being caught. The tilefish bite is also strong. On some days, the dolphin bite has been on fire. Other days, the dolphin have been a little more elusive. One angler caught a 243-pound bigeye on Sunday.
