The 2022 recreational harvesting season for red snapper in the South Atlantic is July 8 and 9.

From NOAA Fisheries:

The recreational sector will open for harvest on the following 2 days:

  • July 8 and 9 (Friday and Saturday) — The recreational season opens at 12:01 a.m., local time, on July 8, 2022 and closes at 12:01 a.m., local time on July 10, 2022.
  • The recreational annual catch rate is 29,656 fish.
  • The recreational bag limit is one red snapper per person per day. This applies to private and charter boat/head boat vessels (the captain and crew on for-hire vessels may retain the recreational bag limit).

These regulations apply to federal waters. South Carolina is set to open red snapper harvest in state waters with a different set of rules. Click here to read more about that. Catching these fish in South Carolina’s state waters is much less common than catching them in federal waters.
