CJ Rocci was fishing out of Atlantic Beach, NC on July 26 when he caught NC’s pending state record red hind grouper. The fish weighed 9.91 pounds, unseating the previous record that was caught off Wrightsville Beach on June 30 of this year by Harrison Bachmann. Bachmann’s fish weighed 9.76 pounds.

Rocci was fishing with friends, who also made some impressive catches that day, including a nice scamp grouper and two red grouper, one of which weighed 31 pounds.

After catching the fish and returning to shore, Rocci took his fish to Chasin’ Tails Outdoors Bait & Tackle to have it officially weighed. The crew there weighed the fish and helped Rocci get the paperwork started to have it certified as the new state record.
