16-year-old Noah Lowenbach of Pawleys Island wins Jr. Angler award
Dave Jaskiewicz of Wando won the IFA Hobie Kayak Tournament in Georgetown on May 1, and he’s no stranger to taking a victory lap at the Carroll Ashmore Campbell Marine Complex. This marks the second consecutive year Jaskiewicz has won in Georgetown.
Jaskiewicz finished the day with a redfish measuring 28.88 inches and a sea trout that was 21.5 inches long for a total length of 50.38. He took home over $2400 for the win.
Joe Komyati of Raleigh finished second with a 32.25 redfish, which won big redfish for the tournament, and a 14-inch sea trout for a total of 46.25 inches. Komyati won $1320.
Nathan Raycroft of Townsville took 3rd place with a total length of 44.75 inches and won $375.
Justin Carter of Mt. Pleasant finished 4th, catching a 24.75-inch redfish coupled with an 18.75-inch trout for a total of 43.5 inches. Carter pocketed $234.
One of the most inspiring stories of the IFA Kayak event was youth angler Noah Lowenbach, who took Jr. Angler honors after catching a 15.25-inch trout. Lowenbach, from Pawleys Island, was fishing in his first tournament, and was undaunted at being the youngest angler in the event. He won $100, and it’s a safe bet this will not be his last tournament.
In Saturday’s boating division, Florida anglers JD Nobles and Kyle Craven took top honors with two redfish that weighed 9.24 pounds. Bob Mitchell and Tim Ward, both from Georgetown, finished second with a 9.23-pound bag, winning $2870.
Another pair of local anglers took third place. Stuart Ricks of Myrtle Beach and Michael Dorman of Aynor, brought two fish weighing 9 pounds to the scales. They won $2859.
The IFA Tour is made up of a boating division, which determines their winner by weight, and a kayaking division, which uses the catch-photo-release method for judging the winning bag of fish. Click here to see their full schedule.
