Want to fish a tournament? Choose your poison

Rennie and Shannon Clark have been successful fishing redfish tournament trails around the Carolinas.

A handful of redfish tournament trails serve North Carolina fishermen.

• The Redfish Shootout Series began last year, and in 2014 it held three tournaments and a championship between Wrightsville Beach and Beaufort. Visit www.redfishshootoutseries.com.

• The Carolina Redfish Series began this year and held three tournaments between Atlantic Beach and Swansboro. Visit http://pcflive.com/carolinaredfish.

• The Lowcountry Redfish Cup has been based in South Carolina since it debuted in 2011. This year, it held five events, including one in Wrightsville Beach, its first venture into North Carolina.  Visit www.lowcountryredfishcup.com.

The Inshore Fishing Association holds tournaments from South Carolina to Texas, with a championship in Louisiana. The last IFA visit to North Carolina was in 2011. A half-dozen North Carolina teams fish IFA tours and have been successful. A companion kayak tour has been up and running for 5 years, and in 2014, IFA added a Pro-Am Redfish Tour, High School Fishing tour and College Fishing Tour. Visit www.ifatours.com.
