One brother fell in, the other brother tried to rescue him
Two brothers from Supply, N.C. have been confirmed as drowning victims in the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway in N. Myrtle Beach, S.C. according to SCDNR and the Horry (SC) County Coroner’s Office. Both men’s bodies were found Monday, May 10, 2021.
The two brothers, 28-year-old Ahykeem Jones and 19-year-old Johnnie Magbie, entered the water around 7:20 p.m. on Sunday, May 9. Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard stated the official cause of death is asphyxiation due to drowning for both men.
On Sunday evening, Jones fell into the water from a boat. Magbie jumped in after his brother. Neither men were seen alive again.
The two deaths mark the second and third deaths in the Intracoastal Waterway in Horry County this spring. In April, Corey Parag died from blunt force trauma after the boat he was riding in crashed near Socastee.
