Some good spots for May redfish

A good, low-tide flat will hold water on even the lowest of negative tides or redfish will not use it.

Many of the most popular fish-holding spots are highlighted on the Top Spot map N233 covering Hilton Head to St. Helena Sound, a favorite tool of area fishermen.

In St. Helena Sound, around the Coosaw and Morgan Rivers, the Airport flats near Warsaw Island is good at low water. Near Sam’s Point Landing and outside the mouth of Lucy Creek, the area across and down the Coosaw River, at the mouth of the Combahee River offers points and flats that hold both redfish in May. The upriver point at the Combahee and the flats on both sides of the inter-coastal channel called the Ashepoo-Coosaw Cutoff are also good.

In Port Royal Sound, from the Chechessee River landing or the Broad River landing, the Hazards Creek area above the bridge and Dawes Island below the bridge are favorites.
