Catch the biggest bull redfish in the world on the Pamlico Sound

Some of the largest old drum in the world live in the Pamlico Sound, the second biggest lagoon in the Unites States. And one of the most fun ways to catch these fish is using artificial lures under popping corks.

Capt. Scooter Lilley with CWW Charters and Chris Douglas of Carolina All Out show us the ropes. It’s all about finding the bait schools and putting your lures right in the middle of them. The loud, popping action of the corks alerts the old drum, which find your lure when the take a closer look. And then, all you can do is hang on for the ride, reeling in as the fish slows and turns toward you.

Anglers come from all over the globe every year to catch these bull redfish. It’s one of the few places on earth you’ll find them of this size in such large numbers. And it’s right here in North Carolina.
