Gifts for the established redfish angler

A fish-lipper, a point-and-shoot camera and popular baits for redfish are perfect Christmas gifts for anglers.

There are lots of fish-lippers on the market, but the industry standard is the “Boga grip” that comes in three sizes: 15, 30 and 60 pounds, with the 15-pound model being most appropriate for redfish.

The Boga is virtually indestructible and has a very accurate scale, but at about $125, it is more than some people spend on themselves, making it a perfect gift. You can lose them overboard since they sink like a rock, so attach something to them that floats.

Smart phones take OK photos, but a good point-and-shoot camera is faster and better. For under $200 you can buy your Christmas friend a camera like the Canon Power Shot ELPH 110HS and take thousands of good photos without paying monthly network charges. And the photos are easily downloaded to your computer where you can work with them using the Image Browser software included with the camera.

Stocking stuffers for redfish anglers are easy. Stay away from the unusual or gimmicks, and stick with the winners: Bass Assassin Sea Shad in various colors (No. 1 being electric chicken), Gulp! baits (4-inch mullet in chartreuse is great). You might also try a saltwater floating plug or spinnerbait.
