Don’t forget fishing piers

Fishermen should not overlook their favorite ocean fishing pier when targeting whiting.

Joe Gantt of Ellenboro makes several trips to the coast in fall and winter, looking primarily for spots, but like most pier fishermen, he likes catching anything that bites and is good to eat.

Whiting are one of the few fish that bite all winter and into the early spring. He said the bottomfish bite best during and after northeaster.
