DMF’s Red Drum Committee Meets May 8 at Washington

Anglers who believe nets are killing too many slot drum in N.C.’s coastal creeks can meet with the DMF Red Drum Advisory Committee Tuesday, May 8, at Little Washington.

For anglers and guides who want the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries to amend the placing of 2 ½-inch mesh gill nets in coastal creeks that also are nursery areas for sportfishes such as red drum, speckled trout, flounder and other species, they have a chance to voice their concerns May 8 at the DMF’s regional office in Washington, N.C.

The DMF’s Red Drum Advisory Committee has tentatively set its next meeting for 5:30 p.m., May 8, at its Washington regional office.

“If you know fishermen who are interested in changing the netting rules in the creeks, the advisory committee meetings are a good place for them to start the conversation,” said Tricia Smith, the DMF’s public relations officer.
