A good redfish fly

Capt. Jack Brown’s “electric chicken” redfish flies are a great substitute for — and imitation of — a jighead and soft-plastic trailer.

Many years ago. Capt. Jack Brown came up with what has become a very popular Clouser-style fly for catching redfish year-round.

Tied in the popular “electric chicken” colors of pink and chartreuse, this fuzzy fly is tied with pink ice chenille and chartreuse rabbit fur to closely imitate the local favorite spinning rod bait — a red jighead with a pink and chartreuse, shad-shaped, plastic trailer. In the winter, many anglers switch colors to root beer, all purple or black.
