Wright has answers in High Rock event

David Wright of Lexington had two big days and won the Bassmaster Weekend Series tournament on High Rock Lake in late August.

Lexington’s David Wright won the Aug. 29-30 Bassmaster Weekend Series event at High Rock Lake with a 2-day haul of 41.34 pounds, bringing in 21.95 pounds on Saturday and 19.39 pounds on Sunday.

Wright’s catch was worth $5,000, and as points champion for Division 5, he received an automatic berth in the national championship.

Steve Sink of Winston-Salem made a run on Sunday with the best catch of the day, 21.96 pounds. That weight, plus his first-day catch of 14.31 pounds got him the second-place check for $1,554. He also received $292 for the big bass of the event with a 7-pound fish.

Other top finishers included: Stephen McLeod of Clemmons, third with 26.98 pounds for $1,036; Rob Digh of Denver, fourth with 24.02 pounds for $724; and Eric Moser of Salisbury, fifth with 23.61 pounds for $621.

Michael Branch of Polkville placed first among the co-anglers with 16.60 pounds and won $1,513. Rounding out the top five co-anglers were: Rodney Michael of Eagle Springs, second with 15.57 pounds for $757; John Russell of Charlotte, third with 14.06 pounds for $504; Mason Meder of Gainesville, Ga., fourth with 13.35 pounds for $354; and Wayne Ingram of Statesville, fifth with 11.55 pounds for $303.

Jason York of Archdale had the big fish among the co-anglers with a 6.61-pound bass.

Basspack strikes again

N.C. State’s “Basspack” placed two teams in the top five at the Aug. 29 National Guard FLW Northern Division tournament at Lake Champlain.

Will White and Kolby Stockton finished second with 18-10 for $5,000, and Mark Kozazcki and Andrew Livngston took fourth with 15 pounds for $3,000.

Old Hickory good to NC women anglers

Heather Broom of Sylva, Michelle Armstrong of Denver and Monica Altman of Angiers received checks at the Sept. 10-12 Women’s Bassmaster Tour event on Old Hickory Lake near Madison, Tenn.

Fishing in the pro division, Broom placed fourth with 29-14 and banked $2,560, while Armstrong finished 20th with 11-15 and collected $528.

Altman placed first among co-anglers with a 3-day catch of 17-3 that paid $2,532.

Altman thought she was out of the running when she zeroed on Day 2, but her Day 1 catch of 6-8, coupled with her Day 3 haul of 10-11 catapulted her into first place.

Altman also qualified for the WBT Championship, scheduled for Oct. 16-18 on the Red River out of Shreveport and Bossier, La.

N.C. anglers rule at Gaston

North Carolina fishermen took four of the top five places at the Sept. 12 Walmart BFL Piedmont Division event at Lake Gaston.

Christopher Cox of Greenville finished second with 23 pounds, four ounces, for $2,852; Chris Baldwin of Lexington was third with 20-12 for $1,904; Bowman Gray of Winterville was fourth with 20-6 for $1,331; and Jamey Caldwell of Carthage was fifth with 19-7 for $1,141.

Jamie Baynard of Clayton placed first among the co-anglers with 14-2, winning $2,852. Sammy Creech of Kenly ranked second with 13-6 for $1,426; Jerry Cross of Southern Pines finished third with 12-6 for $950; and James Spivey of Whiteville placed fifth with 11-4 for $570.

Garner man wins BFL

Eddie Daniels of Garner won the Sept. 19-20 Walmart BFL Shenandoah Division tournament at Kerr Lake with 20 pounds, 1 ounce, collecting $5,077.

Among co-anglers, Larry Halsey of Pfafftown placed third with 15-07 for $823, and Larry Williams of Durham finished fifth with 11-15 for $493.

The National Bass Circuit has canceled its remaining tournaments this season, with the exception of the NE Division.

The NBC ran the Pro Series, Winter Sport Series, Summer Sport Series and Moonlight Madness team tournaments across North Carolina….

Co-angler Terry Chapman of Stanley placed fifth with 45 pounds, 11 ounces, and won $1,920 at the Aug. 27-29 Stren Series Northern Division tournament at Lake Champlain out of Plattsburgh, N.Y.
