Robert Walser of Lexington won the May 7 BFL North Carolina Division tournament on Kerr Lake with a 5-fish limit that weighed 14 pounds, 12 ounces.
Walser not only claimed the first-place prize of $3,804 but also the Ranger Cup bonus of $2,000 and the Evinrude bonus of $1,000. He also won the big-fish award of $505 with a 5-pound, 6-ounce bass.
David Williams of Maiden was second with 13-9 for $1,902. Salisbury’s Kenny Seagle took the third-place prize of $1,267 with 13-4. John Allen of Concord ranked fourth with 12-15 for $888, and Rob Digh of Denver tied Steve Harwood of Weaverville for fifth with 12-12 for $729 each.
George Boyce of Fuquay-Varina finished second among the co-anglers with 9-11 and banked $951. Cody Hoyle of Rutherfordton was fourth with 8-7, collecting $444; and Thomasville’s Charles Wood won the fifth-place prize of $380 with 8-2.
Waterhouse wins at High Rock
Lexington’s Tom Waterhouse flipped his way to victory at the April 30 Bassmaster Weekend Series tournament at High Rock Lake. Waterhouse caught 18.43 pounds from the bushes with plastics to take the first-place prize of $2,456.
Clayton Williams of Taylorsville finished second with 16.61 pounds and received $1,228. His biggest fish weighed 4.54 pounds. Terry James of Wadesboro ranked third with 16.16 pounds, winning $819. Tony Hatten of Huntersville took the fourth-place check for $573 with 14.76 pounds. Chad Eriksen of Raleigh had 14.61 pounds for a fifth-place finish that paid $491.
Steve Sink of Winston-Salem took home big-fish honors with a 5.53-pound bass, winning $265.
Jackie Reilly of China Grove placed first among the co-anglers with 9.12 pounds and collected $1,205.
Asheboro’s Robert Shane ranked second with 8.78 pounds and banked $602. Tyler Fisher of Salisbury captured the third-place award of $402 with 8.59. Winfred Branch of Polkville took fourth with 8.55 and had the co-angler big fish with a 5.41-pound bass. He received $281 for fourth and $130 for big fish. Alan Griffin of Polkton tied Thomas McDermott of Madison for the fifth spot with 8.21, with each fisherman earning $241.
Wolfarth, Fritts get FLW paydays
Ron Wolfarth of Oakboro and David Fritts of Lexington received checks at the April 28-30 FLW Everstart Series Southeast Division tournament on Lake Eufaula, Ala.
Wolfarth finished 15th with 22-2, earning $1,948, and Fritts finished 28th with 18-15, earning $1,266.
Co-anglers Trathen Dollar of West Jefferson and Justin Jones of Apex also had paydays. Dollar won $3,919 by finishing third with 15-5, and Jones received $441 by coming in 45th with 6-8.
Warriors on the Water draws 150 boats
Dave Burdock of Fayetteville and his co-angler soldier, Jeff Begley of Columbus, Ohio, won the annual Warriors on the Water Military Appreciation Bass Tournament April 29 on Jordan Lake.
Since the inception of the tournament in 2006, the event has treated more than 600 servicemen and women to a free day of fishing with volunteer anglers. The event was conceived by Hal Abshire, Greg Lahr., and Bob Cunningham as a means of recognizing the contributions of military personnel deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. This year, 150 teams competed.
Murdock and Begley finished first with 17.01 pounds, winning by almost two pounds over Will Blanton of Fayetteville and co-angler soldier Jesse Allen of Russellville, Ala., who wound up with 15.06.
Michael Lamb of Raleigh and co-angler soldier Anthony Diamande of San Diego, Calif., were third with 14.09; Jimmy Metcalf of Cameron and co-angler Aaron Bunch of Minden, La., were fourth with 14.03, and James Wade of Loris, S.C.,, and co-angler soldier Khalid Asadullah of Trenton, N.J., rounded out the top five with 13.12.
Walt Gulledge of Cameron won the Big Bass Award with a 7.70-pound bass with the aid of his co-angler soldier Craig Fried of Erie, Penn.
Blankenship second at Wylie
James Blankenship of Lexington weighed in 16 pounds, nine ounces to finish second at the April 16 Bass Fishing League N.C. Division tournament on Lake Wylie. His catch paid $2,122. Blankenship earned an additional $600 for the day’s big fish, a 6-pound, 2-ounce bass.
Franklin’s Scott Browning placed third with 16-4 and earned $1,413, and Allen Eaker of Cherryville followed in fourth with 15-6 and received $990. Keith Kirby of Gaffney, S.C., won the tournament and the $4,244 first-prize money for a limit that weighed 16-11.
John Cook of Matthews topped the co-anglers with 13-13 and won $2,122.
